What is SVHC?

SVHC, that is, substances of very high concern, originates from the EU REACH regulation and is a class of hazardous substances stipulated by the REACH regulation. According to the characteristics of Article 57 of the REACH regulation, SVHC has one or more of the following dangerous characteristics: 1. Carcinogens, teratogenic substances and reproductive toxic substances of Class 1 and 2. 2. Persistent, bioaccumulative, toxic 3.  Other substances that have actual cases to prove that they have serious harmful effects on humans and the environment (such as endocrine disruptors)

SVHC requirements

According to the terms of the REACH regulation, if the article contains a substance in the SVHC candidate list, and the mass fraction and/or export volume of the substance meets certain requirements, the relevant responsibility of the enterprise will be triggered. When an article contains more than 0.1% of the substance in the SVHC candidate list, and the substance enters the EU more than 1 ton/year/company each year, the manufacturer or importer of the article must notify the EU Chemicals Agency.

BCTC Recommendations

The SVHC list is generally updated twice a year, usually in June and December each year. With the continuous updating of the SVHC list, enterprises are faced with more and more control requirements. The lab advises companies to investigate supply chains early to prepare for regulatory changes. The laboratory can detect 223 SVHCs in articles according to the standard REACH regulations.
