TS16949 is "Quality Management System - Special Requirements for the Organization and Implementation of ISO9001:2000 for Production Parts and Related Service Parts in the Automotive Industry", a quality system issued by the International Organization for Standardization (ISO) in March 2002. ISO/TS16949 is the technical specification of the international automobile industry. It is based on the basis of ISO9001 and adds the technical specification of the automotive industry. This specification is completely consistent with ISO9000:2000, but focuses more on defect prevention and reducing quality fluctuations and waste that are prone to occur in the auto parts supply chain. The ISO/TS16949 standard is formed on the basis of the IS09001:2000 standard by adding special requirements of the automotive industry. ISO/TS16949 is the only quality management system in the world that applies to organizations in the automotive/motorcycle supply chain. It is based on eight management principles: focus on customers, leadership, full participation in the process approach, systems approach, continuous improvement, Fact-based decisions, mutually beneficial supplier relationships.
The validity period of the TS16949 certificate is three years, and a surveillance audit is conducted every 12 months after the general certification audit. Among them, the first surveillance audit must be carried out within 12 months after the closing meeting of the first audit, and the second surveillance audit is allowed to be extended for a maximum of one month.
Requirements for the auditee
ISO/TS16949:2002 certification registration, applicable to the entire automotive supply chain. These manufacturers must be directly related to the production of automobiles, have processing and manufacturing capabilities, and enable products to add value through the realization of such capabilities.
Companies required to obtain ISO/TS16949:2002 certification and registration must have at least 12 months of production and quality management records, including complete records of internal reviews and management reviews.
For a newly established processing site, if there is no 12-month record, the review can also be carried out. If the review meets the requirements of the quality system specification, the certification company may issue a letter that meets the requirements of the specification. When the record of 12 months is available, the certification audit registration is carried out.
If an organization that has been certified and issued a certificate cannot continue to maintain the normal operation of the quality system and the consistency of product quality, there will be a risk of the certificate being revoked.

The pertinence and applicability of the ISO/TS16949 standard is very clear. It is only applicable to automobile manufacturers and their direct spare parts manufacturers. That is to say, these manufacturers must be directly related to the production of automobiles, and can carry out processing and manufacturing activities. This activity enables products to add value. The cycle is determined according to the company's expectations and actual conditions.
