UN38.3 Certification Introduction

UN38.3 refers to the test requirements of the United Nations for "Recommendations on the Transport of Dangerous Goods - Manual of Tests and Criteria" Chapter 38.3 Lithium metal and lithium ion batteries;

The purpose of UN 38.3 is the procedure to be followed for the classification of lithium metal and lithium ion cells and batteries UN 3090 3091, 3480, 3481 and special provisions applicable to Chapter 3.3 of the Model Regulations.

Lithium battery transportation safety test report, and a full set of safety tests for various types of batteries according to various domestic and foreign standards, to ensure product quality and safety for battery manufacturers, and to meet various standards to improve export capacity.

(1) The UN38.3 test is a mandatory test to ensure that lithium batteries can be safely carried by air and sea.

(2) The Civil Aviation Administration of China issued the "Lithium Battery Air Transport Specifications" to all air transport companies, which clearly requires that lithium batteries must pass the UN38.3 test in a laboratory accredited by CNAS before they are transported by air or sea. The lithium battery can only be accepted and transported on the premise of the lithium battery UN38.3 conformity report and transportation appraisal certificate.

UN38.3 certified product scope and definition

UN38.3 is mainly aimed at the test requirements for lithium metal and lithium ion battery cells and batteries;

Lithium metal battery: It is a basic functional unit of power supply that is designed as non-rechargeable and directly converts chemical energy into electrical energy. Consists of electrodes, electrolytes, containers, extremes, and usually separators;

Lithium-ion battery: refers to a rechargeable electrochemical cell or battery whose positive and negative electrodes are both interlayer compounds (a grid of lithium intercalated in the electrode material in ionic or quasi-atomic form), and neither electrode has metallic lithium .
